Carnival Youth

Carnival Youth is an indie band from Latvia that appeared on music scene as a surprise and quickly gained popularity.

Even when Carnival Youth members – Emīls Kaupers (drums), Edgars Kaupers (guitar), Roberts Vanags (keyboards) and Aleksis Luriņš (bass) – were still studying in high school, their take on indie music got public attention and the band took Latvian music scene by storm.

Having good results in charts, they also started to perform live in Latvia and abroad, also won Latvian record prize “Golden Microphone 2014” as the best new Latvian band.

But this year Carnival Youth became the first Latvian artist to win the European Border Breakers Award (EBBA) and EBBA Public Choice Award. In fact, previous EBBA winners included now established artists such as Adele, “Mumford and Sons”, “Kodaline” and many more.

One of their first singles, “Never Have Enough” from debut album “No Clouds Allowed” (2014), is among the best pop songs written in Latvia (I dare say – even in Europe) that is still played on radio stations, and it seems radio will never have enough of this song.

Carnival Youth rather quickly found their musical voice thanks to producer and sound engineer Gatis Zaķis, who’s been working with a lot of best Latvian bands, for example Brainstorm, Instrumenti, Sound Poets etc. It is clear that they take music making very seriously, but the outcome gives impression their songs are youthful, playful and full of energy.

No doubt that Carnival Youth is one of the most successful Latvian bands which knows how to make good music, how to perform it and how to make people love it. This April band will release their second album, “Propeller”, and tour some European countries.

The first single from their new album is called “Connection Lost” and it proves that Carnival Youth haven’t lost their musical qualities, and you can still expect from them expressive, creative and serious yet playful music.
