Jia Huizhen

Jia Huizhen has always been a pop artist on the fringes of mainstream music, and it looks like she’s embracing that notion more and more with her latest single, “Out of Chaos” (北风吹), her sixth one this year.

The Beijing-based synth-noise-singing electronic duo formed in 2005 and consisting of singer-songwriter Jia Huizhen and producer Yao Sichen, have given us a sleek, distortion heavy track that pays tribute to a barrage of pop’s more offbeat songstresses, including Bjork, Kate Bush, and more.

Based on a famous Ming Dynasty poem, the lyrics relishes in the chaos and utter desperation which come with depression before emerging from the shadows a stronger person. One of Beijing’s most underrated artists.
