“River Run” is the first official single release by Leah Dou, the daughter of beloved singer songwriter Faye Wong and experimental music forerunner Dou Wei.
With such a heritage, expectations are high for Dou’s first foray into music. So does “River Run” deliver? Yes and no, but mostly yes.
Produced by Grammy-nominated production trio The Invisible Men, the song begins with a eerie string syth that runs around a slow-burning hip hop beat, while Dou delivers ominous lyrics on the state of human communication.
It all sounds nice and all, but seems to lack that special something that made her parents’ music so endearing.
Well, there’s still plenty of time for the young nineteen-year-old to live up to her potential and carve out her identity.
