New Zealand Ghanaian singer-songwriter and producer Leila Adu brought us two new EPs this year: “Scary Love Monster” in March, followed by “Love Cells” in May.
A dizzying genre, language and border-crossing exploration of Grimm’s fairy tales, avant-tronica, urban and suburban romantic ensnarement, and universal love in both abstract and mundane forms.
Shades of celestial jazz, freak folk, soul, acapella, noise pop, downbeat and RnB shimmer in and out of each other across two complimentary EPs. Leila Adu will turn your ears out, and maybe your mind as well.
