Karpov not Kasparov

Yes, Karpov Not Kasparov may have the best band name in Romania right now. But what’s in a name if the music doesn’t live up to it? Thankfully, that is not the case with this very talented Bucharest-based duo.

Valeriu Borcos and Eduard Gabia describe their sound as “a musical game of action and reaction between drums and keyboards.” Get it? It’s like a chess match. It’s quite the experience.

A strong presence on the underground electronic music scene for a while now, with two very well received EPs on the Local Records label, Karpov Not Kasparov have hit one out of the park again.

“Mechanical Turk”, coming off of the “Soundtrack for a Game of Chess“, is an amazing record, and you don’t even have to like chess to appreciate it. And as opposed to a chess match, you can listen to it over and over again. There’s no time limit!
