Freyr Flodgren

An introspective new piece from the Stockholm-based singer-songwriter.

Freyr Flodgren has been dabbling in music since he was a child, co-founding several bands along the way – like Brother North, Lärkträdet and Högkvarteret – in his birth-town of Umeå. However, it was only after a recent move to Sweden’s capital, Stockholm, that he became properly focused on his solo career.

The beguiling “Over My Head” is the first song released under his own name. Developing over a subtle percussive accompaniment, it highlights the beautiful, rich sound of the acoustic guitar and Flodgren’s soft, appeasing voice.

While the song gradually becomes more majestic, adding piano and keys, as well as background vocalizations by Otha, it retains a confessional, intimate atmosphere throughout. With its intricate compositional structure and deep, gorgeous sound, it’s a little gem that whets the appetite for more.

If you like melancholic, slowcore influenced singer-songwriters in the vein of Barzin or Rivulets, you should definitely give Freyr Flodgren’s music a chance.
