While I was familiar with the group already, when I heard The Holy’s latest single, “This Will Be the Day That I Die”, I was taken aback for a moment. In fact, listening offhandedly to the radio playing in the other room, I actually mistook it for something by Coldplay. And I liked it.
The hyperbole about an indie band’s stadium-sized ambitions or sound is a double-edged sword to say the least. Still, the up and coming Helsinki band carry a certain grandiosity effortlessly, in a kind of same way that Wolf Parade never gave a shit whether they’d live and die inferior to Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band.
We have yet to see a full-length album from them, but you can already stream their recent debut EP “More Escher And Random Notes” on Bandcamp, and also check out their previous video “Ramses The Evil Brother“. The Holy are definitely on fire and, quite possibly, born to run.
