Belgian-Italian band Ada Oda, known for its unique fusion of post-punk energy and Italian melodies, bids farewell with their second and likely final album.
Formed in 2020 by guitarist César Laloux and fronted by Victoria Barracato, the group quickly gained recognition for their electrifying performances and a distinct sound blending sharp guitars with emotive, fast-paced vocals. Their debut, “Un Amore Debole” (2022), brought them to quite a few European festivals, earning praise for its raw intensity and melodic hooks.
With “Pelle d’Oca”, Ada Oda refines their signature style, delivering 11 tracks in just over 30 minutes. The album explores themes of fear and desire, touching on impossible love (“Settembre”), jealousy (“Sotto la Conchiglia”), and societal anxiety (“Figlia d’Europa”).
Barracato’s expressive voice shifts from monotone chants to frantic outbursts, reminiscent of X-Ray Spex, while the band oscillates between raucous energy and occasional introspective ballads.
Despite their rising success, internal conflicts and relentless touring took a toll. In early 2025, Barracato announced her departure, citing personal struggles and exhaustion. Unable to reconcile their differences, the band decided to part ways, canceling all planned shows but ensuring their final album saw the light of day.
Ada Oda’s short-lived career leaves behind a legacy of high-energy performances and a distinctive sound that merged the urgency of post-punk with the romanticism of Italian pop. While “Pelle d’Oca” marks their swan song, the band’s fearless spirit and unique artistic vision ensure they won’t be forgotten. As their name—drawn from Italian-American slang—suggests: “Tomorrow is another day.”
