ÀIYÉ

“Maybe this is all just a dream / And we will wake up when we all say together: No.”

ÀIYÉ is the new solo project from Larissa Conforto, best known for her incredible work as the drummer of Ventre, one of Brazilian’s finest rock bands in recent memory.

But when Ventre called it quits last year, Conforto decided to explore new sonic depths, distancing herself from her past work and finding new influences to form something new entirely.

Her new EP, “Gratitrevas“, shows the first step of that progression — and while her drum and percussion work are as incredible as ever, Larissa offers much more with beautiful vocal layering, atmospheric synth work and creative guitar and bass lines.

While “Gratitrevas” is deeply rooted to trip-hop and other melodic electronic subgenres, its lyrics are often abrasive as Larissa deals with heavy social and political themes.

“O Mito e a Caverna” is a stand-out — a collaboration with Vitor Brauer of Lupe de Lupe, the song deals with the aftermath of Bolsonaro’s election and the divisiveness of the Brazilian president’s ideals.

Not today, not him
Within each “No” there’s a revolution
There’s a revolution within each “No”
Maybe this is all just a dream
And we will wake up when we all say together: No.
