Copenhagen-based stoner metal trio Black Book Lodge’s first full-length is an impressive collection of heavy riffs, an avalanche-like groove and surprisingly mature song writing. The lyrics handle cheery subjects like self destruction, revenge, and depression. “Tûndra” is an extraordinary debut.

Blaue Blume’s official debut, “Beau & Lorette”, seemed destined to bring the young Danes success. Because as far as art-rock goes this is quite excellent stuff. A bold, ambitious, adventurous and compelling record, and an impressive continuation of the everything that began almost two years ago with their first single, “On New Years Eve“.

Born Frederik Valentin, Complicated Universal Cum is one of the most uncompromising artists on the Danish scene. His fourth alternative rock album, “Everything Is Drugs”, was released as a free download through ILLEGAL! – a non profit street magazine sold by people who take drugs – which is governed by one basic principle: that drug users should be decriminalised.

With “The African Dream”, Negash Ali has created a remarkably excellent EP with a skillful combination of both hard hip hop and poppy R&B. The rapper, who’s been a force on the Danish hip hop scene since he was 16, rightly describes the record as his best work yet.

Much of the material from “Leipzig”, the fourth LP by the Faroese-born, London-based band ORKA, was recorded in an old cinema in the German city of Leipzig. And you can actually feel it in the unsetting atmosphere and the sedate pace of the album which is both their most accessible and their most weird and anarchic. It is also their best yet.

A long time favourite Shiny Darkly released their first full-length album in May 2014. The Copenhagen trio – Kristoffer Bech, Mads Lassen and Oliver Matthew Volz – created nothing short of a massive debut, taking their perfectly dark and despondent music to new heights. Post-punk extraordinaire.
