Charles Pakowsky are a band of “seasoned newcomers” from Wrocław, who just released their mesmerizing first single.
The name of the band references two of its founding members, vocalist Katarzyna Pakowska and guitarist Karol Jagieła. She is singing and playing in several bands, including Flying Moses, SheMoans, and Ovo; he, in turn, is performing with Adrianna Styrcz.
They met a couple of years ago and started playing together, initially performing unusual covers of songs by the likes of Roisín Murphy, Lianne La Havas or Hiatus Kaiyote.
Subsequently, they turned to writing their own material, expanding the band into a quartet by recruiting drummer Michał Lange and bassist Radosław Łukaszewicz. Both are experienced musicians, partaking in multiple other projects (for instance, you might recall Łukaszewicz from playing with another up-and-coming duo, Dwa Pokoje).
“Wzruchy” is Charles Pakowsky’s first single. It’s a hypnotic song with an unobtrusive yet intriguing sound. The melody ebbs and flows in unusual ways, accompanied by smart lyrics and compelling instrumental arrangements.
Bit by bit, the band is working on their debut EP. However, they claim it’s not going to conform to the acoustic sound of the single. We’ll have to wait and hear for ourselves. For now, Charles Pakowsky are certainly ones to watch.
