With roots from jazz, rock, and pop, Cloud Cuckoo’s debut album is all about dynamic variation.
Explosive and quiet, ballads and experimental rock songs – dynamic variation is key in Hedda Hammer Myhre’s solo project Cloud Cuckoo’s debut album “Under the Moon”.
The album starts out with “Impulsivity” which is a great example of what an opening song is supposed to do: give us a taste of the album’s thematic and dynamic variation.
Hedda Hammer Myhre’s ideas are executed masterfully, and her attention to detail is impressive. Just like on the track “Nostalgia”, without dominating the soundscape the synthesizer evokes exactly that: nostalgia.
Cloud Cuckoo does not have to tell you what the music is about, you can feel it. It is not thrown at you, but invites you in.
With roots from jazz, rock, and pop, Hedda and her band have a familiar sound, but I still can’t place them directly adjacent to anyone else in the Norwegian scene.
And it is perhaps exactly why this project is so exciting, handcrafted and custom made – referential originality that paves its own way.
