One of the icons of contemporary Cuban music, Danay Suarez combines pop, hip-hop and R&B in her own distinct way.
It’s a whole decade since we first introduced Danay Suarez, calling her “a hip-hop artist infatuated with jazz, moving seamlessly between rapping and singing.”
It’s still all true about her work, but she’s matured and spread to cover pop and R&B, as her latest album “Cambio” demonstrates. Deservedly, this record has quickly become a streaming hit getting hundreds of thousands of listens in just two weeks.
“It fills me with joy because I’m not trying to compete, but I must celebrate that there is hope for music and that there are people who listen, like many of you who have followed my releases for years,” she wrote on her Insta.
At the same time, she’s not very happy how streaming works. “We are fighting the cultural battle against an algorithms that favors content that has lulled society,” she added.
Stream “Cambio” LP on Spotify – and help her fix the algorithms.
