Songs about sincere and truthful experiences, set to bustling electronic music beats — that’s what Elpo’s debut EP, “Rožu dārzs” (“Garden of Roses”), is all about!

The newly formed duo, Elpo, consists of one of the most experienced Latvian producers, Mārtiņs Makreckis (Makree), whose work has graced the airwaves of BBC Radio 1, and London-based Latvian singer Amanda Bašmakova, juggling her time with another project — Bash! Both artists bring their unique musical backgrounds to the EP, creating a captivating blend of sounds.

“We want to tell stories, make people move their hips, hum our melodies, and feel better,” says Mārtiņš, summarizing the duo’s mission. Centred around their life events, the EP features lyrics that vividly explore what’s going on in their heads.

Along with the release of the EP, a music video for the title track was made featuring Amanda in an empty sports hall.

I am definitely expecting more from them in 2024, and I cannot wait to see where their musical journey will flow to. The local music industry absolutely needs more dance music and Elpo have certainly set a high bar.
