Foster Parents

Foster Parents are a new Shanghai two-piece that play catchy, tuneful math rock.

It’s a tough formula to nail for instrumental math bands – staying playful yet demonstrating complexity, and creating strong melodies while avoiding steering into “showboaty” territory.

Foster Parents manage to solve that equation with ease. Their debut album “Grim”, despite the name, is loads of fun – with thunderous drumming and loose, pleasurable loopy guitars.

“Colours Casted” is the album opener, and it’s a good introduction to their sound with its shiny guitar wizardry and some unconventional time signatures.

The yin and yang of “Math” and “Rock” in perfect balance.
