GDJYB

Even outside of Hong Kong you wouldn’t find anyone sounding like the all-female quartet GDJYB, who match math-rock’s precision with beautiful vocal themes and an exceptional musical imagination.

You might already know them from their colorful video “Double NoNo”, which appeared in our collection of the best 2014 tracks from Hong Kong. After a longer brak, GDJYB (雞蛋蒸肉餅) recently made us breathless again with their new offering, a 6-minute journey called “That Day I Went To His Funeral”.

As the title suggests, it’s a story about a funeral and the song actually includes some ambient sounds of a real burial ceremony. The video, directed by the band’s drummer, Heihei Ng, brings its very own interpretation of the story, and in spite of the subject it’s worth a repeated watching.
