Immortal Onion

Eclectic trio Immortal Onion offer you a taste of new Polish (electronic) jazz.

Immortal Onion, based in the city of Gdańsk, were among our biggest discoveries of the Tallinn Music Week festival in Estonia two years ago, and ever since we’ve been waiting for their new studio recording. And here it is: unpredictable, eclectic and challenging to describe, which is exactly what one could hope for.

On “Technaturalism”, Wojtek Warmijak (drums), Tomir Śpiołek (piano, synths) and Ziemowit Klimek (double bass, synths) constantly try new textures expanding their soundscape mostly in the electronic direction, and shuffle time-signatures effortlessly.

At the same time, they reman as entertaining as on their previous albums and on their internationally famed concerts – they’ve played in about 25 countries to date.

As for inspirations for “Technaturalism”, the members of Immortal Onion mention three pianists from Sweden, Japan and Armenia – Esbjörn Svensson, Hiromi Uehara, and Tigran Hamasyan. While you won’t find any direct references, some quieter lyrical moments and persistent melodies should appeal to fans of those artists.

According to the band, declaring that they “took full control – composing, recording, producing, and mixing it all themselves” while working on this album, this new material is also an exploration of the balance between technology and nature. At least on “Technaturalism”, those two forces work hand in hand.

Stream “Technaturalism” LP on Bandcamp and Spotify.
