Haim Laroz is a multi-instrumentalist and a producer who never stops experimenting. Together with Alon Amano Kampino, an oud and guitar player, they formed a project called Desert Groove where they collaborate with Arabic-speaking artists from different cultures.
The beautiful track below features the mesmerizing voice of the North African singer Mariem Hassan. After long years spent in a refugee camp she moved to Spain, where she nursed the Sahari music heritage. Quite late, she started recording official albums and working with other artists.
Sadly, North Africa lost one of its greatest voices this August, when Mariem died of bone cancer aged 57, in a desert refugee camp in Algeria where she returned not long before her death. We can thank Laroz & Amano for bringing her music closer to us.
