Ethereal and rhytmically captivating, new album from Uruguayan singer-songwriter, producer and drummer Juanma Cayota fuses cyclical patterns with melodic experimentations.
Juan Manuel Cayota – professionally known as Juanma Cayota – just released his second album, “Vámonos al sol”, a relatively short but solid piece of work built with eight enchanting tracks.
Climatic and warm, this album opens with the wonderful “Contradicción”, a song carried by a heavy drum beat and mysterious lyric that welcomes the listener to a journey in which one can trace references and influences of Uruguayan music heavyweights as Eduardo Mateo and Fernando Cabrera (in whose band Cayota plays as drummer), but all in all, offers a personal identity and feel.
Hypnotic sound collages work as rest stops and way stations in this journey, that gains strength and depth with the appearance of guests voices such as those of Victoria Brion and Fabrizio Rossi, a main staple as producer in Uruguayan indie scene (a work he does here too), but also as musician and songwriter.
