On her new album, Latvian singer-songwriter Keitija Bārbale presents young person’s sense of the world and her place in it.
In 2022, Keitija Bārbale released her debut album “Akmens dievs” (Stone God). It is emotionally powerful, but intimate record, where drama is achieved with only her voice and guitar.
It was a splendid debut success, which received recognition not only in Latvia, but also entered beehype’s Best of Latvia 2022 list.
This year, Bārbale released her second album “Mazāk nekā trīs” (“Less Than Three”), in which singer-songwriter continues to establish herself as a gifted singer, but at the same time, she takes steps closer to the aesthetics of pop music. “Mazāk nekā trīs” has more colors and rhythm.
Bārbale’s new album is a bit more cheerful, with witty lyrics that are full of youthful maximalism.
This album represents young person’s sense of the world and her place in it. Even if you do not understand the lyrics, one cannot help but enjoy Bārbale’s vocal abilities, her voice allows you to approach the mood of each song.
Bārbale’s path in music so far has been intriguing, because musically she is like a chameleon – changing all the time. I am eagerly awaiting her future albums, which I believe will be astonishing.
