Mariela Condo

Mariela Condo is a young musician whose origins harken back to the Puruhá indigenous community where her grandmother “condemned” her to be a singer – as Mariela herself explained in a television interview.

With her high voice she sings about the “chuquiragua”, a highland wildflower typical for Ecuador and Perú.

Accompanied by a masterfully arranged suite of brasswinds, strings and percussion this piece is truly as beautiful as its subject. I think we should thank Mariela’s grandmother.
