For a country stereotypically associated with long and dark winter nights and fascinating but raw nature, surprisingly Norway has been recently giving us a lot of lighthearted music reinterpreting the tradition of folk songwriting.
Simen Mitlid and his band are a great example of this growing and refreshing movement. Last year, the Oslo-based singer and composer released a beautiful 5-track record “While We Wait“, including the single “Thoughts” with its memorable chorus and sinusoidal emotional outline.
Just a few weeks ago, Simen gave us another outstanding single, “Vacation”, which is a reminder of why we all once fell in love with Sufjan Stevens’ complex arrangements and Nick Drake’s melancholy. He’s got it all, but in his very own way.
