Sambor

Sambor is an old Slavic name, consisting of two elements meaning “alone” and “to struggle”, respectively. Accompanied by three other musicians, the vocalist and instrumentalist Sambor Kostrzewa is admittedly not alone, but their new EP, “Bruksizm”, genuinely fells like a struggle.

The group frantically shuffles various styles and moods, as if striving to find their own voice. However, the restrained “Błękit” (“Azure”) is an immediate highlight. In the song Kostrzewa’s voice is submerged in a symphony of clanking and grinding sounds, juxtaposing its melancholic timbre with a sense of overwhelming coldness. The result is thrilling.
