Robin Kester

It looks like COVID hasn’t stopped the Dutch music scene from releasing great stuff.

One of the new records you definitely shouldn’t miss is Robin Kester’s new EP “This Is Not A Democracy”. Earlier this year, she released a spellbinding Thom Yorke cover and we can definitely tell Yorke was an influence for this intriguing new record.

Before starting her own project, Robin Kester played in different bands. But listening to these new songs, it becomes clear that Kester didn’t just want to copy former experiences, but rather find her own personal style.

Lead single “Remove and Delete” is a wonderful ballad that is reminiscent of the playful, 70s influenced pop of Weyes Blood and Angel Olsen. Our favourite track of the EP is the pulsating “Sweat and Fright”, a haunting song that combines eerie synths with Robin Kester’s soothing vocals.

With its moody yet captivating songs, we think it’s safe to say that This Is Not A Democracy is the perfect soundtrack for the first week of autumn.
