The voice and the production put Segen among Francophones’ most promising alternative R’n’B artists.
Segen is a new singer based in Geneva, in Switzerland. She’s released her first EP “Incipit” (produced by Goon Kid and DJ Raze) on Mourir Jeune Music label in June, after having revealed the video clip for her smooth first single “Gual Sheytan”, which you can watch below.
Mixing languid sounds of R’n’B, nu soul and funky electronic music, “Incipit” expresses her love and social misadventures with an impressive calm and maturity. This disturbing contrast permits her to make her messages resonate even stronger, as in “Gual Sheytan”, where she softly alerts an ex-lover that she defends herself if she meets him again.
“Don’t rely on the instrumentations’ vibe”, she prevents him, as if a storm could break out at any moment. Watching Segen sing behind a bunch of flowers in her single’s peaceful video, couldn’t suggest such lyrics either. The dignity and disinterest she shows, in a sign of defiance, makes “Gual Sheytan” both a strong and delicate feminist anthem.
The tenderness in her voice and the production qualities put Segen among Francophones’ most promising alternative R’n’B artists. We can’t wait to hear what will comes next…
