SNØ (not to be confused with Snö or Snø) released their single “Hilja” a month ago and revealed a rare niché within Norwegian music: A mix of folk inspired elements infused with progressive rock and metal.
Soft piano chords followed by a rougher guitar, before Karla Lesley Jaeger’s vocals pierce through the sound scape and the song evolves into an epic explosion.
SNØ (also the Scandinavian word for “snow”) describes their song “Hilja” as “a woeful lullaby to the world, but does not have to be sad if you don’t want it to be. The words are as from a child’s perspective, and ‘hilja’ means ‘quiet’ in Finnish. The song also reveals a fear of growing up.”
