Steaua de Mare (“Starfish”) was a ’60s seaside complex in one of the now fading Black Sea resorts Eforie Nord. As people relaxed in the sun and ate good food, traditional songs were played by restaurant bands. A new band of the same name – part of The Future Nuggets collective – pay homage to this way of life by combining the sound of that era with modern recording techniques.
“Doamne ce greșeală am” is a famous hit originally released by Vali Vijelie, a Manele Romanian singer. Steaua de Mare completely reworked the original, taking the voice and the lyrics out and playing it on analog machines and synthesizers. If Kraftwerk were born in Balkans, their music would sound like this.
