Tante Elze comes with an ode to a synthwave and electropop sound.
It’s more like eight autonomous odes that were supposed to be a reflection of an outside world. It ended up as an insight to Veronika’s mind though. Her intention still remained, cause the album is her way of communicating what’s happening in her own world.
“Ódy” is her first album written as a mother and the topic is present but brought effortlessly with a wit (“Mater Omnium”). Some of the songs are pure joy – naive, youthful and lighthearted electronic is followed by more gloomy, ominous and a capella sounds.
Listening to one of the first single “Magický šalát” feels like a concentrated hope overflowing your ears, it’s a fresh and perfectly flavoured mix of ingredients.
“(Ó) Internet”, the last song, is an ode written for internet browsing, activity you come to for an instant comfort when there’s no time left for anything more meaningful. These kind of emotions are expressed by a capella sound followed by a deep roar right after.
Maybe you get surprised by unexpected horns in “(Ó) Odvaha”, maybe by English lyrics (for the first time in Tante Else music) in “Violet Love”.
A way to express yourself is also by simple song titles as in this case. A few other Slovak musicians helped and were part of a process but the release was recorded, produced and served by Veronika herself.
