The Boy

Peculiar and always interesting in his own unique way, director and musician Alexandros Voulgaris – aka The Boy – released a package of 24 new songs, engaging again many of beehype’s fellow contributors, in spite of its Greek lyrics.

The Boy has been featured in our platform for quite a few times in the past, revealing that he is one of the most beloved Greek musicians.

Among Inner-Ear records’ stable of oddball rock artists, he is a lonely rider and a one-man band, who offers his 7th studio album titled “Παραδουλεύτρα” (Charwoman). But this time, Athens’ based The Boy comes with a bunch of people and guest musicians, friends like Felizol, Δεσποινίς Τρίχρωμη, Nalyssa Green, Κτίρια τη Νύχτα, Lolek, Sandra Abuelghanam and Kika, among others.

In love with Winona Ryder and the ‘80s, he delightfully goes through dark folk and indie rock, captivating old school electro and synth pop, alongside with local influenced styles like Greek zeibekiko or rebetiko music. As for his lyrics, he balances between pure poetry, torrential street language and – sometimes unnecessarily – provocative or awkward sex and violent obsessed words.

The magnificent “Simon Soul” below, stands out easily with its Greek fervour and reveals its beauty layer by layer, unveiling fluttering voices and catchy piano melodies, blessed in addictive sadness.

Meanwhile, you can also check his new film as well, titled “Winona”, released few days ago.
