The Planktons

Gregory Rabassa said “Every act of communication is an act of translation”, so there’s no way for you to misunderstand the crashing waves of The Planktons.

This trio from Skopje is creating an instrumental music. Surf rock band from a city where the biggest water surface is the river Vardar.

Few months ago they released their new single “Сон” (Dream), which will be part of their new release “Денес” (Today). Surf music is a subgenre of rock music associated with surf culture, particularly as found in Southern California.

It was especially popular in the 60s. So maybe you’re surprised how they got motivated to create this kind of music almost 60 years later in Macedonia. Probably their name would explain it better.

Plankton are drifting organisms that live in the surface layers of the ocean. They live in the top layer of the ocean, called the epipelagic zone. Expressing their feelings and thoughts through the surf tunes, “dreaming” for a beach on the river side in the capital of Skopje.

Surf does not put them in the frame, it does not limit their thinking and approach to the music they are creating.
