Balancing avant-pop, electronica, and atmospheric rock, Belgian trio TJE deliver an impressive debut album.
TJE, the Brussels-based trio consisting of Lindy Versyck, Melvin Slabbinck, and Klaas Leyssen, has delivered an impressive calling card to the 2026 alternative music landscape with their debut album “SCHADE”.
Following a successful start in 2023 with the EP “IDOLS” and a third-place finish in Humo’s Rock Rally, the band has lived up to high expectations with a sound that balances avant-pop, electronica, and experimental atmospheric rock.
The core of TJE is formed by the synergy between the three musicians and producer Pieter-Jan Decraene, who plays a crucial role as co-writer and unofficial fourth band member. Together, they create a unique blend that is both raw and multi-layered. The music is characterized by a constant tension between fragile emotionality and organic, sometimes abrasive instrumentation.
Central to all of this is the versatile voice of Lindy Versyck. Her vocal range has been compared to icons like Björk and FKA Twigs, yet it maintains a completely unique character.
The title “SCHADE” (Dutch for damage) is not just a coincidental anecdote from the studio — referring to some broken lights — but also symbolizes the personal and societal vulnerability woven throughout the album. For instance, the closing track “I Lost My Voice” refers to a period in which Versyck literally lost her voice, strengthening the record’s emotional weight.
Musically, the album varies from instrumental soundscapes like “Verlangen” to more accessible yet idiosyncratic indie-art pop such as the singles “Easy” and “Supernatural”. While “Sidewalk” pushes boundaries with its dissonance and experimental outbursts, the Dutch-language tune “Stillend” shows a more subdued, ethereal side of the band. With a minimum of instruments, the trio manages to generate a maximum impact.
“SCHADE” is a bold and layered debut poised to make waves not only at home but also internationally. It is an album full of musical friction and magic, revealing new nuances with every listen. With this release, TJE proves to be one of the most exciting and authentic acts of the moment.
