Powerful black magic spreading with the voice of Tuğçe Şenoğul.
First time I heard her name was nearly 10 years ago, when she had a duo named Seni Görmem İmkansız with Gaye Su Akyol, another great musician of our scene. They were creating dark sounds with synths, keys, drum machine, melodica and – the most important – with their ravishing voices. It was 2010 that I listened to their music live at first and they seem like two witches spelling some kind of black magic on us. Then I decided to learn both of their names and try to follow their musical journey.
Gaye Su started her solo career earlier, in 2014 she released her debut album and then she walked in a great way. At some point, we also mentioned here at beehype. After that, I became more nervous because I wanted to see and hear Tuğçe’s own project as well – to finish my relation with Seni Görmem İmkansız. Then last year in 2017, Tuğçe released a single named “Kaptan” at first, and then she published her debut album called “Gölgelerine“. I mentioned that album in Turkey’s Best of 2017 list, but among all those beautiful albums, “Gölgelerine” is in my top three concerning the listening counts.
Today I want to share with you two beautiful songs from “Gölgelerine”. The first one is “Bıraktığın İzler”, whose video was released at the end of April.
When you watch the video without taking your eyes off, you will be hypnotised and you will get what I mean by saying there is something like a black magic in Tuğçe Şenoğul’s music.
The second video came in just last month, and it’s titled “Kaçıyorum Bak” (stream it below). It was directed by Özgü Özbudak and Burcu Baki. It is like a dark short movie, making you anxious about the ending. It suits the character of the song very well.
After you watch and listen these two songs, I believe you will have an intention to continue with all songs from “Gölgelerine”, which will be just the right decision. I should also mention two more names – Taner Yücel and Görkem Karabudak – who are the producers of this great album.
While you are listening to just these two songs or the whole album in a loop, please be careful about the possible side effects of a powerful black magic spreading with the voice of Tuğçe.
Stream “Gölgelerine” LP on Spotify.
