First as a female duo, then a trio, finally a quintet, the Reykjavík-based group Ylja have been singing about the bright and dark elements of our daily life since 2008.

Their self-titled debut album came out in 2012, followed two years later with an enchanting release titled “Commotion”, which brought them attention of critics in- and outside of Iceland.

“Leppalúði” is a surprise single they’ve posted online just before Christmas, and it’s their own special take on a classic song written by the famous Icelandic musician and actor Þórhallur Sigurðsson, usually known as Laddi.
