Traditional soul music with elements of jazz, hip-hop and sometimes disco, and Yuga’s smoky voice riding on it.
On her new album “Love Deluxe”, folk singer Yuga decided to sing about loving herself, perhaps a personal challenge for her – and surely not only her.
“Love Deluxe” was produced by Takuro Okada, also a singer-songwriter himself, who references to a wide range of music, from Wilco to J Dilla.
With his help in arranging and sometimes composing, Yuga’s songs became excellent dance music. It is evident, for example, in “Love Deluxe”, which seems to have Sade in mind.
“Mother” is about a lover who can only be met in a dream. The final song, “Stay with me”, seems to be about the Little Mermaid. She sings, “If I could be bubbles, it’s okay, just stay with me.”
Yuga’s new album was intended to be dance music that could also make nerd people dance, and her voice became even more powerful as it was guided by the dance tracks.
If we can guess from the lyrics, her new songs might be about loving again and melting a frozen heart at the bottom of a cold sea.
