It’s dark, it’s romantic, it’s charming, it’s groovy, it’s melodic. What’s not to like?
Dlina Volny (Wavelength) started as yet another Belorusian cold wave outfit (country has quite a few, with Molchat Doma being most famous). Their first album “Mechty” (Dreams) was promising, but rough around the edges.
It took band three years to release their second disk, “Dazed“, and in that time quite a lot of changes has been made. Group signed to Italian label Italians Do It Better, ditched Russian language lyrics in favour of English, and dramatically upgraded its sound. The result is outstanding.
The band’s new sound is extremely charismatic, clean, spacious, a bit retrofuturistic, and somehow reminds me of Netflix’s show “Stranger Things”. English suits Masha Zinevitch’s vocals better as well, it works great with her low voice and charismatically clumsy delivery.
On top of all of that, record has a strong dance groove, that easily carries listener through all its 12 compositions.
