A classic Persian poem in a stunning new rendition by Islamabad-based group Saakin.
It has been quite some time since we shared something from Pakistan, but when Saakin released the music video of their rendition of “Saqi-e-Bawafa”, it was impossible not to write about it. Gorgeous vocals, minimal yet powerful instrumentation, this song is pretty heavy!
Islamabad-based Saakin has taken a poem by sufi Persian poet Shams Tabrizi and turned it into a song that stays with you. The first time I heard it I had to play it twice, then three times, and it was with me all day because I haven’t been moved by a song this much recently.
It is absolutely stunning and the music video really captures the essence of the song and compliments it well. Check it out!
