Sevdah is a traditional Bosnian music genre, very powerful and melancholic music where the voice and lyrics are the most important things and the music goes to the the second plan.
One of the best sevdah singer today is Damir Imamović. His grandfather was famous Zaim Imamović, and his father Nedžad was also a sevdah singer. We are safe to say that sevdah runs in their family.
Damir has a new, very emotional approach to sevdah, and many fans worldwide as well as international music industry have already recognized this.
His new album, “Dvojka”, is going to be released at the end of April on Glitterbeat Records, which is a label known for some of the most popular world music artists.
Damir Imamović’s Sevdah Takht is a project where Damir plays sevdah with Nenad Kovačić (percussion) and Ivan Mihajlović (bass). A teaser of that upcoming record, “Lijepa Zejno” shows the group will release a great new album of traditional Bosnian music. I have no doubts about it.
A few weeks ago, Damir has also released the first video of “Dvojka”, a black-and-white story about the city “at the foot of the mountain” where he was born, where he grew up, a city full of old songs, poems, and sadness beneath.
